“To Lift Feathers In Gold, Hidden in Our Crevices Where Emotions are Consumed to Unfold Inspiration. Weightless As Feathers In Gold”
Joel uses art as a means of expressing emotion and capturing moments that define the human experience. Through expressionism and surrealism, his work explores themes of identity, memory, resilience, and humanity’s interconnectedness with the world around us. Rooted in his Salvadorian heritage, Joel’s practice speaks closely to the experiences of Latino communities, particularly the untold stories of Central and South American families. His work draws from humble beginnings, personal history, and the value his family placed on education and creativity. Working across materials such as graphite, charcoal, acrylic, oil, and metal, he merges memory, scientific influence, and Latin culture to create emotionally driven, geometric, and surreal compositions. As a Latino artist, Joel is committed to honoring nuestros descendientes y nuestros ancestros—our descendants and our ancestors—through work that uplifts community, preserves heritage, and creates spaces of compassion, emotional expression, belonging, and inspiration.”
